Amalgam removal in our East Grinstead Dental Practice

This case shows amalgam removal at St James Practice and cosmetic ceramic fillings placed in 1 hour using CEREC.

1
amalagam removal Most cosmetic dental practices offer white fillings, but they are made of a ‘composite’ material that can discolour over time. When you have a CEREC white filling, crown or veneer it is made from the same material that a high tech Dental Laboratory would use, except you don’t have to wait the usual 2 weeks with a plastic temporary while the lab makes your new tooth; this also has the advantage that you don’t need to have another round of injections when the crown is fitted because CEREC means we fit them at the first appointment.

How does CEREC work?

CEREC uses modern digital imaging to take a ‘digital impression’ (so no gooey impression material in your mouth!), your new tooth is then designed on a computer screen and precision milled from high density cosmetic ceramic to exactly match your neighbouring teeth… the results are invisible and extremely long lasting. This technology is amazing and you can even watch your new tooth being crafted by our digital milling machine. It uses highly accurate diamond drills to remove ceramic from a solid block. Here’s a video of the process…
